Dr. Andrew Mackner is a residency-trained optometrist specializing in the treatment of glaucoma, anterior segment pathology, cataracts, surgical co-management and comprehensive eye exams. Dr. Mackner was raised in Pelican Rapids MN, he earned his Bachelor of Arts at Concordia College in Moorhead Minnesota, majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry. Upon completing his degree at Concordia, he went on to earn his doctor of Optometry at Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon.

During his time in Optometry school, Dr. Mackner founded and led to two vision care trips to the Arusha district of Tanzania to provide primary eye care services. He is also past president of the American Optometric Student Association which represents optometry students from across the country and Canada.

Following completion of his internships and graduation from Optometry School Dr. Mackner went on to complete is residency at Omni Eye Services in New York and New Jersey where he gained advanced training in the areas of glaucoma, anterior segment pathology, cataracts, and surgical co-management.

Dr. Mackner currently serves on the education committee for the American Optometric Association and is a member of the Minnesota Optometric Association. Dr. Mackner is actively publishing articles in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Mackner is the recipient of the special service award from Pacific University College of Optometry and the Founders award from the American Optometric Student Association.

In his free time, Dr. Mackner enjoys spending time with his family at his parent’s lake home. He enjoys fishing, swimming and wakeboarding. He loves to travel and enjoys trying new restaurants. Dr. Mackner is a Minnesota Vikings fan who even while in New York found a place to be surrounded by fellow Minnesota fans and rarely misses a game.

Dr. Mackner is committed to providing an advanced level of individualized care to his patients while continually striving to stay current with new technologies that can benefit patient care.

Dr. Mackner provides care at the Edina Eye offices in Edina, Elk River, Princeton, Shakopee, and Waconia.
