Dr. Hammond was raised in Vermillion, SD and attended South Dakota State University for his Bachelor’s degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Business. He then attended the Illinois College of Optometry where he graduated with honors, was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa and Tomb and Key honor societies, and received the Clinical Excellence Award. Following graduation, Dr. Hammond was selected for a post-doctoral residency at the #1 ranked eye hospital in the country, the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, where he received medical and peri-operative training in several ocular disease sub-specialties.
Dr. Hammond specializes in the medical management of glaucoma at our Coon Rapids location. He also provides specialty care for corneal and dry eye disease, utilizing the most advanced diagnostic testing and effective treatments available. Dr. Hammond has co-authored two textbooks and numerous articles on ocular disease, and also serves on the Education Committee for the Minnesota Optometric Association. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the American Optometric Association, the Minnesota Optometric Association, the Ocular Surface Society of Optometry, and the Optometric Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Society. He also has a passion for providing eye-care for the underserved, and has taken multiple trips to Africa and Mexico through organizations like Unite for Sight and VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity).
Personal
Dr. Hammond and his wife Amanda enjoy running the trails of Minneapolis and exploring new places and restaurants. They live in St. Louis Park with their Bernese Mountain Dog, Lincoln.
