One of the area’s leading cataract experts, Dr. Schaefer has completed over 12,000 surgeries during his 20 years of providing excellent eye care in the Twin Cities. He performs premium implant cataract surgery and laser treatment for glaucoma. Dr. Schaefer is a leading expert in the use of Advanced Technology Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) such as: multifocal, extended depth of focus (EDOF), astigmatism-correcting (Toric), and Light Adjustable Lens.
Selected as one of Minnesota’s top doctors, Dr. Schaefer was most recently recognized in Minnesota Monthly and Mpls.St.Paul magazines in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Dr. Schaefer served as an adjunct assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota Medical School, a former surgical instructor at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis and a past President of the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology.
